Skived PTFE film adhesive tape is made from a thin, unsupported PTFE film coated with a pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive. Unlike PTFE-coated fiberglass tape, it contains no woven reinforcement, giving it a smoother surface, lower profile, and greater flexibility around curved or irregular parts. It is selected for release, anti-friction, chemical-isolation, insulation, and surface-protection applications where a clean PTFE contact layer is required.
| Backing | Skived, unsupported PTFE film |
| Adhesive | Pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive |
| Typical Total Thickness | 0.08 / 0.13 / 0.18 / 0.25 mm, depending on grade |
| Color | Natural white or brown-red, depending on construction |
| Width | Common slit widths from 10 mm; custom widths and wide rolls available |
| Length | 10 m / 33 m and custom converting options |
| Surface | Smooth, non-reinforced, low-friction PTFE |
| Temperature Guidance | Grade-dependent; continuous and peak exposure limits are confirmed on the technical data sheet |
| Coefficient of Friction | Low-friction PTFE surface; test method and typical value vary by grade |
These are common configurations rather than guaranteed universal values. Final thickness, adhesion, release behavior, temperature rating, and tolerances are confirmed on the quotation and technical data sheet.
Choose skived PTFE film tape when you need a smooth finish, low profile, chemical isolation, or conformity around a curved part. Choose PTFE-coated fiberglass adhesive tape when reinforcement, dimensional stability, and repeated abrasion resistance are more important. For heat-sealing bars and heavily cycled machine surfaces, reinforced tape is often the more durable starting point; for rails, molds, and precision surfaces, unsupported film may provide the cleaner finish.
Specify the operating temperature, surface material, radius or part geometry, contact pressure, sliding speed, chemical exposure, and required service life. Thin grades conform easily and minimize buildup, while thicker grades generally provide more physical separation and longer wear life. Adhesion should be evaluated on the actual substrate because surface energy, contamination, roughness, and heat history affect bond strength.
For chemical, food-equipment, aerospace, or electrical use, identify the required test standard and documentation before ordering. PTFE chemistry alone does not confirm that every adhesive construction is suitable for every regulated application.
Mavis supplies slit rolls, wide rolls, sheets, and die-cut parts. Provide the required width, length, thickness, quantity, substrate, process temperature, and application drawing where available. Samples can be used to confirm release, wear, adhesion, and removal performance before production quantities are converted.
No. The backing is skived PTFE film without woven fiberglass, so it is smoother and more conformable but less resistant to tearing than reinforced PTFE cloth.
Removal depends on the substrate, temperature, pressure, and exposure time. For critical surfaces, test a sample under real operating conditions.
Some grades can support insulation applications, but dielectric strength and compliance must be confirmed for the selected construction. For dedicated insulation requirements, also review our PTFE electrical insulation tape.
